Compass Educational Partners: An AI Agent Faculty Designing a World-Class Virtual School

Maxim Cloud Solutions helped Compass Educational Partners build an AI agent “faculty”: a team of AI personas, each embodying a specialized educational role, that brainstorms and designs Compass Virtual Academy, a private online school in Florida.

Compass Virtual Academy is currently in design. Its flagship program targets grades 6 to 8 within a school spanning grades 6 to 12, built to the highest caliber and intended to be recognized globally. Designing an institution of that ambition normally takes a large team of specialists that a lean consultancy simply cannot hire. So Compass Ed convened one anyway, as AI agents.

The AI Faculty

Each agent holds a credentialed educational persona and contributes its discipline’s perspective to every design conversation:

• Academics: ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science teachers
• Leadership: Head of School / Principal, Dean of Students, and Director of Curriculum & Instruction
• Student support and related services: Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist, School Psychologist, and a Learning/Student Support Specialist, with services modeled for teletherapy delivery
• Operations, compliance, and governance: Director of Safety, Security & Data Protection; Director of Finance & Accounting; an Education Attorney focused on Florida law; and a Parent/Family Representative

An orchestrator, the Faculty Summit, convenes the team, runs the agenda, and keeps every voice in the room.

How the Faculty Works

• The team works the ADDIE instructional design loop: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate.
• Every design decision passes through legal, safety, budget, and family red-flag gates before it is accepted.
• Output accretes into a living School Design Package: charter, program of study, support model, schedule, operations, compliance, and evaluation.
• Design work aligns to Florida B.E.S.T. Standards and is built for FERPA compliance from the first draft, with the FES-UA scholarship (the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities, administered through Step Up For Students) treated as a first-class design constraint.
• The method is inspired by the open research project DaRL-GenAI/instructional_agents.

Humans Stay in Charge

The AI faculty does design work, and only design work. Licensed humans teach, and accountable humans decide. Every agent’s output is reviewed by a dedicated human in the loop who holds the exact certification of the role that agent performs. The design effort is led by a Certified Educational Diagnostician and reviewed by a board of certified professionals: an educational leader, a curriculum specialist, an OTR/L occupational therapist, a PT/DPT physical therapist, a CCC-SLP speech-language pathologist, an NCSP school psychologist, a Florida education attorney, a CPA, a CIPP/US privacy and security professional, and a parent representative.

Compass Virtual Academy is a design concept and is not yet enrolling students.

Every year, thousands of Florida families discover their child qualifies for special education services, and have no idea what to do next.

The world of IEPs, 504 plans, and the FES-UA scholarship is dense, high-stakes, and overwhelming. Maxim Cloud Solutions partnered with Compass Ed’s founder, a Certified Educational Diagnostician holding a master’s degree from Texas Tech with over 16 years of special education classroom experience, to build a full-service SaaS platform that transforms that expertise into a scalable digital business. Rather than a simple brochure site, we built a multi-stream consulting platform that combines one-on-one services, digital products, membership access, and B2B school partnerships, all under one roof.

Security-First Architecture

Education data demands the highest standards of protection. Every database table is locked down with Supabase Row Level Security (RLS): no exceptions, no shortcuts. Authentication is enforced on every protected route and API endpoint. Service credentials never touch client-side code.

AI-Powered Development Workflow

To maintain quality and velocity across a platform of this scope, we implemented an 18-agent AI development system: specialized agents for architecture, backend, frontend, security auditing, testing, code review, documentation, and more. Every pull request goes through a 5-agent voting consensus before merge, covering correctness, minimalism, edge cases, and security.
